Mouth Artist 3d development.... the holder is spring loaded, biting it aligns the holes from the two cyclindrical structures to release the brush; releasing your bite will prompt the spring to push the smaller cylinder back up, clipping the brush in between.

Thanks David! The inspiration came from your suggestion of using the ball-shaped stopper used in bags.
